The work of an architect is very different in some ways from what it was thirty years ago. Architects were skilled artists thirty years ago and that is exactly what they still are today. The basic idea is the same. The architect is still responsible for the blueprint of your house or of any other building or structure that is erected. A lot of the things that used to be done manually are now done with the help of computers.

The computer of an architect is a little more complicated, or rather sophisticated, than the basic one you can get at the electronics store. The computer specialty software archiCAD is a real eye opener. The designer is able to produce a lot more in very little time because of archiCAD. The time he needs to use for these products is very little if you compare it to few years ago when architects took much more time to complete similar assignments. The former generation of architects had no clue as to what their profession would develop to be in time.

What is archiCAD and what can it do to help an architect? It is a form of technology that is called virtual building. More than 100,000 architects use archiCAD to create 2-D and 3-D drawings. Data-enhanced parametric objects are used by this software program. All the so-called building blocks are present in the virtual software program and are available to the architect who creates what he calls a virtual building with those building blocks. In other words, this means that all possible structural elements are pre-designed and can be customized to fulfill the needs of the individual customers.

The architect uses this software program to create just about anything that needs to come on the blue print. Architects of today compile their own architectural library with things that can be used in archiCAD. ArchiCAD makes it possible for architects to create designs that are just stunning, and it is remarkable how fast this can be done if you compare it to the old architectural techniques. Construction documentation is just one possible application of the software. The archiCAD architect produces professional drawings and he needs to understand not only the BCA but also the construction methods. A strong background in architectural technology is required of archiCAD architects. Strong technical knowledge is always required to be able to work with the program.

Most employers expect at least an architectural bachelor’s degree. Interacting with many different clients is a necessity because of the nature of the work. It is essential that architect-archiCAD job seekers are very skilled in communication. Architect-archiCAD positions are usually only open to experienced, skilled workers. Therefore it is advisable to apply for other jobs in the sector while in school and to seek an internship position soon after graduation. Experienced architects can also become self-employed and do freelance architectural work. In the old days architects were the ones who were extremely respected in their community and made a lot of money. ArchiCAD did not change that concept, and because it is so much faster and architects can do a lot more work in the same time, they make more money than ever before.

The jobs in this field are high-paying jobs. Architectural employment is very respectable. Architectural careers are very promising. Experienced archiCAD architects make more than a $100,000 a year. People are still fascinated with the work of architects and the use of computer software will never change that.
